BIO

Wouter Van Tornhout (°1980, Ghent) is a Belgian drummer who has played with a wide range of national and international artists. In 2007 Wouter graduated from the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and Ghent where he gained a master’s degree in Pop and Jazz music. Continuing his studies, he then took classes with American drum guru Dom Famularo which led to his role at the School of Arts in Ghent (2010 – present) where he teaches at the pop and jazz department.

Wouter is currently playing with international pop artist MIKA and has been a member of his band since summer 2018.

Previous projects

In 2006 Wouter joined the band of Belgian producer, composer and pianist Miguel Wiels which allowed him to build his portfolio as in-house drummer for a number of Belgian and Dutch TV shows. Artists collaborated with during this period included Anastacia, Eliza Doolittle, Vaya Con Dios, Right Said Fred, Aloe Blacc and George Baker.

In addition to this, Wouter has performed as part of various projects and with artists including Café Flamand, Free Souffriau, Hadise, Rob de Nijs, Paul de Leeuw and Niels Destadsbader.

Individual drum lessons

For whom?

Motivated drummers or musicians, of any age, who are looking for evolution in their playing, or who want a broader view on their practice pattern. Knowledge of music theory is a plus, but not an absolute must.

The drum lessons are customized to your experience and expectations

Drum coaching and preparing for a gig are also possible options, for those who are already playing in a band. If desired we can work on specific drum parts and drum sound.

During the lessons, the focus will be on:

– Grooves
– Body posture and drumstick technique
– Fills in different styles of music
– Playing with a clicktrack and/or loops
– Sound & tuning
– Microtiming
– Coordination

Potential lines of work:

– Drum technique
– Confident playing (expression / stage presence)
– Adding personality to your playing
– Refining your study method / setting up a practice schedule

instruction rate?

Instruction rates are €40 – €80 (1/2 hour – 1 hour). Lessons are payed in advance via PayPal or bank transfer.
Multiple time slots can be booked: from 1 lesson to a package deal. There is also an option to book an entire morning, afternoon or day..

It’s important that the camera is positioned in such a way that you and your drums are clearly visible.

The very first session, be ready 15 minutes prior to the lesson to optimize the internet connection and different settings.

After the lesson, you will get access to a shared folder with play-alongs, pdf’s with exercises and/or notes, recordings of our live session, etcetera.
